Charles Greyson was a Psychiatrist involved in cutting edge neurobiological research. His research group's project was intended to make diagnosing mental disorders faster and easier by examining the physical layouts of brain cells, but a routine test of their scanning equipment produced side-effects and Charles not only received a scan of his brain, he also awakened latent psychic powers. While still interested in continuing his research, Charles quickly realized the potential for his newfound abilities, and set out to achieve his childhood dream of joining the Freedom League.
As Greymatter, Charles proved extremely successfull as a hero and gained the fame he was looking for. He served alongside the Freedom League for many years before falling in battle with the villanous Shadow organization.
